When the deferred action for childhood arrivals became available, I knew I was eligible. I came to this country as a baby. But I was too scared to apply. I was scared of "coming out of the shadows" almost. The U.S. government had no idea I was even here. It was a new policy and we didn't know what to expect. It took me about a year but I sent my application. Every day after that, I would check to see if I received a letter from the USCIS saying I had been accepted. Every time it wasn't the day, I would blast this song when I'd walk to pick up my brother from school. I would think to myself, "today was not the day but tomorrow will be" till the day I received my acceptance letter. This song doesn't have many lyrics but the feeling I get from it reminds me of the hope I would carry from day to day.
